Even before the school year officially begins, one of the biggest bands in Jesuit history is readying a halftime show that will rock fans at Jesuit football games this fall.

The Blue Jay Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Joe Caluda ’79 and assistant band director Mr. Jason Giaccone, spent almost a week in late July putting into place a musical program that includes tunes from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rush, and The Foo Fighters. This year’s show is expected to showcase Jesuit’s drum line.

“I thought this year’s band camp was very productive and extremely successful,” Caluda said.

Two drum majors will orchestrate the 2015-16 Blue Jay Band: seniors Dane Castillo and Tristan Killgore. Castillo also leads the MCJROTC Band.

Ninety-one bandsmen and 40 Jayettes bussed to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, where they worked tirelessly in sweltering heat to bond and prepare the show that Blue Jay fans will enjoy throughout the season. New band members attended an earlier session, which was held on Jesuit’s campus.
