Jesuit Defeats West Jeff, 10-5, to Open 2016 Season

The Blue Jay rugby team opened it’s 2016 regular season on Saturday, Jan. 30 with a 10-5 victory over West Jefferson High School at Gretna Park.
On a muddy pitch, Jesuit got off to a quick start with a try from senior Will Waguespack to take a 5-0 lead. The conversion was missed. Junior Josh Cashio broke loose deep in West Jeff territory for another try to lengthen Jesuit’s lead, 10-0. The conversion sailed wide left.
As time wound down in the first half, the
Buccaneers were able to break loose and score a try on their own. With the missed conversion, the Blue Jays led 10-5 at the half.
The second half moved quickly as neither team was able to get much going offensively. The first half held all of the scoring and the Jays walked away with a 10-5 win and Jesuit looking forward to taking their 1-0 record against Christian Brothers High School of Memphis.
