As May slips into June, American Legion Baseball begins in earnest for Coach Joey Latino and his Retif Oilers, last year’s runners-up at the World Series.
Jesuit-based Retif Oil plays Otto Candies on Wednesday night, June 1, at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium with first pitch at 7. On Thursday night, June 2, Retif will host Deanie’s Seafood at John Ryan Stadium with first pitch at 6. The games are seven-innings with the 10-run rule in effect after five innings.
The Oilers last Saturday beat Lakeshore twice in double-header action at John Ryan Stadium. The first game ended in a 2-1 win for Retif, as did the second contest, 8-3. On Monday, Retif went up the river to play Townsend Homes at St. Charles Catholic High. The Oilers came away with a 4-1 win, powered by Stephen Sepcich’s two-run home run, his first of the season.
