Used Book Sale Attracts Hundreds of Blue Jays and Their Parents
On the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 3, the third floor hallway was filled with hundreds of Blue Jays and their parents eagerly shopping for deals at the annual Used Book Sale. The first Blue Jay parents in line arrived as early as 6 a.m. to get first pick of the books on hand.
The Used Book Sale offers opportunities for many parents to cash in on both ends. By recycling their sons’ text books for the next crop of students, parents are able to reclaim half the price they paid if the books were newly purchased the year before. At the same time, other students are often able to buy the texts required for their classes at a 50 percent discount. All of the used books are in good to excellent condition.
Each year, Blue Jays and their parents can participate in the Used Book Drop-off, where specific books are dropped off for inclusion in the Used Book Sale.
The Used Book Sale is an annual event organized by a dedicated group of parent volunteers led by Christine Zazulak. It’s purpose is simple — to save Jesuit families as much money as possible on the increasing costs of text books.
