As the game began, the proud parents returned to the stands to cheer on their sons for another big soccer match. The first half against the Fighting Irish saw both teams battling for control of the field, but the game remained scoreless through the first 40 minutes of play.
It wasn’t until the 56th minute that the Jays were able to notch one up onto the scoreboard, going Chris-to-Chris as senior Chris Pitre punched one in on the assist from sophomore Chris Tadros. the second score for the Jays came just minutes later, this time with Pitre on the assist to junior Braden Brignac.
The Jays proved themselves the better team that night, as they took home the 2-1 victory. The Jays also topped the Irish with shots on goal (5-2) and corner kicks (4-1).
The following night, the Jays managed a 1-1 tie at Newman against an aggressive Greenie squad. Braden Brignac was back in action as the only scorer for the Jays, this time on a penalty kick. Also seeing action on Wednesday was Freshman Nick Pelias, who got the nod at goalie for the first time this season.
The Jays go in just a half game behind in a big district match on Saturday against Brother Martin. Jesuit’s bout with Brother Martin needs to put another notch in the Jays’ “W” column for them to take home the district crown. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM at Tad Gormley Stadium.
