Saturday Game Summary: 1 Win, 1 Loss

On Saturday, the baseball team split games with a 9-4 loss to North Gwinnett at 11:30 AM, followed by a 18-1 rout over Fontainebleau at 2:00 PM. Both games were played at RBI field.

In the first game, an early pitching change brought senior Zack Smith (13) to the mound, who fought hard against Bulldogs from North Gwinnett. The Jays had an early lead after the first inning behind the bats of Nick Ray and Mack Miller, but the Bulldogs slowly chipped in runs throughout the game to mount a 9-4 victory over the Jays.

In the second game against Fontainebleau, it was a bottom of the second inning hitting frenzy that gave the Jays 15 runs off 12 hits. That game concluded with an impressive 18 runs off 15 hits for Jesuit.

The Blue Jays next travel to South Lafourche at 12:00 PM on Monday, Feb. 27.

Game 2: Win – Jesuit 3, West Ouachita 1

Davis Martin

Senior Davis Martin (1) pitched six innings, giving up only one run and striking out three.

On Friday night, Feb. 24, the Blue Jays relied on a sixth inning rally to push past the West Ouachita Chiefs 3-1.

Senior Davis Martin (1) was the winning pitcher for the Jays, and junior Andrew Cashman (19) came on in relief in the seventh inning.

West Ouachita took and early lead in the first inning, but Jesuit tied it up in the second as freshman Parker Serio (15) drove in senior Marhall Lee (10) off a double.

The game remained tied until the Jays knocked in two more in the bottom of the sixth.

The next two games are played at RBI Field on Saturday, at 11:30 AM against North Gwinett and at 2:00 PM against Fontainebleau.

The Blue Jay baseball team is going to be outdoors all weekend, but it won’t be on the sidewalk side of a Mardi Gras parade route.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Jays posted a big win over the Greenwaves of Ponchatoula at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium at 4:30 PM. Senior Todd Crabtree (11) got the start and pitched five innings. He struck out six in the first three innings to keep the Greenwaves scoreless through four.

Big hitting in the first inning from seniors Mack Miller (7) and Marc Theberge (3) – both cranking out doubles – drove home three runs for the Jays to jump out to an early lead.

The game remained at 3-0 until the fifth inning, when senior Stephen Sepcich (27) drilled a triple to send senior Nick Ray (12) around the bases for the score. Sepcich was then batted in by Mack Miller, who was himself hit home by junior Kaden Knecht (16).

The Jays allowed three runs themselves in the inning, bringing the score to 6-3. Junior Christian Hess (14) came out to relieve Crabtree in the process.

The Jays tacked on two more runs in the sixth, and ended the game in the seventh on a double play. The Jays stepped off the filed with a score of 8-3.

Jesuit returns to Kirsch-Rooney on Friday night at 7:00 PM to face West Ouachita as the WGNO Baseball Classic continues.
