Celebration 2017 Boogies and Grooves in Mid-City
Celebration at the Disco Ball
presented by
It was a night for platform shoes and gogo boots as Jesuit guests boogied their way down to Celebration Funkytown.
Jesuit’s Celebration Auction & Gala kept the groove in Mid-City this year, turning the Cannery into Disco Inferno on Saturday, October 28. Many of the attendees dressed for the theme “Celebration at the Disco Ball,” wearing their hippest disco threads.
This year’s event featured on and off-site mobile bidding, a welcoming performance from the Blue Jay Jazz Band, scrumptious food from 40 of the area’s finer restaurants, and live and silent auctions.
Featured auction items included a six course dinner with wine for ten at Oak Wine Bar donated by Shawn and Charlie Haddad ’91, a Destin Vacation Package including a one week stay in a condominium donated by Carol and Al ’88 Bienvenu, and a Maltipoo puppy named Jaysie.
Members of Jesuit’s MCJROTC assisted guests with online bidding, while students with the National Honor Society dished out delicacies.
Volunteers Lori Frischhertz and Stacey LaCour served as co-chairs of Celebration. Wanda Montalbano and Mary Meyer Toups chaired the auction committee. Food donation and coordination was headed by Cindy Wooderson and Beth Vargas. The disco ball was decorated by Missy Martin, while Kelly Candies, Patti Mahoney, and Br. Billy Dardis ’58 looked after libations. Karen DeBlieux invited sponsorships, and Wendy LoCoco coordinated reservations.
In addition, Jesuit offers special thanks to the production staff at The Cannery, Lieutenant Colonel Tim Huete ’76 (MCJROTC), Mr. Jason Giaccone (Blue Jay Jazz Band), Mrs. Amy Tassin and Mrs. Pam Catalano (National Honor Society), Mr. D.J. Galiano ’07 (special effects lighting), Tom Fitzmorris and Fr. John Brown, S.J. (live auction), Tracey Bellina (design and production coordination), Jeremy Reuther (communications), and the members of Jesuit’s maintenance and facilities team.
Finally, Jesuit offers its gratitude to all those who volunteered, donated auction items, and attended Celebration 2017. Proceeds from the annual auction and gala are used to keep Jesuit an affordable school of excellence.
