Due to preceding rainfall, the slippery artificial turf on John Ryan Stadium’s Alumni Field demanded good defense, sharp passing, and smart decisions. And that’s exactly what the loyal home crowd witnessed throughout the wet and rainy district contest.
Ten minutes into the game, Jesuit lead 3-0. By the 25th minute, the team increased its lead to five goals. First half scorers were Trey Aucoin, Kai McCurley, Jacob Torres, Ashton Perkins, and Eli Cheramie. At this point head coach Hubie Collins created opportunities for substitute players to work in with the starters, and by the second half, everyone on the roster saw playing time. Bennett Mansour scored back-to-back goals in the second half, and with a minute left Ridge Retif raced past Eagle defenders to sneak a dagger into the net. The Blue Jay defense was impenetrable, allowing forwards and midfielders to attack and fire over 20 shots on goal.
After shaking hands, Coach Collins explained to his squad how a good mix of subs can help greatly in sloppier games down the line.
“Everyone played well tonight, and that’s important because we still have some holes we need to fill. We need to start getting used to playing in these conditions – cold, wet, rainy temperatures. It’s that time of the year,” he said.
