Jesuit’s track and field team posted a 29th-place finish in a 42-team, multi-state field at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Track and Field Classic on March 23 & 24 at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. Edna Karr High School and McGill-Toolen Catholic High School were the boys’ and girls’ winners, respectively. Since 1993, this event has been the largest high school track and field invitational in Louisiana. This year’s meet featured 126 boys’ and girls’ teams (83 different schools) from four states –Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee.

This was a great mid-season warm up to get the Jays geared up for the end of the season. Jesuit finished with seven points overall and competed in a variety of events. Junior Jacob Torres accounted for six of Jesuit’s seven points. On Friday, Torres placed seventh in the 300 hurdle prelims with a 40.82 qualifying him to move on to the finals.  Then on Saturday, Torres notched Jesuit’s only third-place finish of the weekend, with a time of 40.71 in the 300 hurdles final.

Jesuit’s 1600 (4×400) relay team picked up the other point on Day Two with a sixth-place finish. Sophmore Kylan Steele teamed with a trio of seniors– Timmy Stahel, John Schmidt, and Brenner Rauch–to post a time of 3:35.31.
