Gridiron Jays Leave Hearts on Field in Quarterfinal Loss, 27-14
The Jesuit football team finished its season with a record of 6-6. Although a .500 season is considered to be average, this senior-led team was above average in many respects. The Blue Jays played hard-nosed football all season long and never once allowed a team to score 30 points on them. In the end, a 27-14 quarterfinal loss to top-seeded John Curtis closes the curtain on a very competitive 2018 Jesuit football season.
The team was not perfect, but they fought hard through a beefy regular season and postseason schedule. And here’s the kicker. Senior Max Scheurich, after missing a handful of kicks last year, put the past behind him and completed a statistically perfect season. He also added two successful onside kicks in his final two games. Scheurich’s comeback story is just one example of the trust Jesuit football players have in the process. When head coach Mark Songy realized that Scheurich accomplished this feat, Songy described himself as “elated.”
