Track & Field Gets a Jump-start at the Sugar Bowl Classic
On March 22 & 23, Jesuit’s track and field team competed in the multi-state field at the 26th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Track and Field Classic at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. Ouachita Parish High School (Monroe, La.) and John Curtis Christian School (River Ridge, La.) were the boys’ and girls’ winners, respectively. This year’s meet welcomed the largest field of athletes in its history featuring 139 boys’ and girls’ teams with 2,500 participates from five states –Alabama, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
After being waylaid by meet cancellations and recouping from a handful of injuries, the Jays used the Sugar Bowl Classic as a nice warm-up to prepare for rest of the season. Jesuit finished with eight points overall and competed in a variety of events. Senior Jack Battaglia single-handedly earned those eight points with a second-place throw in the javelin—hurling it an amazing 160’5″.
