NEW ORLEANS – Crescent City Sports continues its live streaming coverage of high school sports Monday afternoon with a key New Orleans-area boys bowling matchup between Jesuit and Brother Martin.
Coverage on CrescentCitySports.com will begin at 3:25 p.m. from Colonial Lanes in Harahan. CCS’ Ken Trahan and Lenny Vangilder will describe the action Monday.
Like a year ago, there figures to be plenty of strikes when the Blue Jays (9-1) and Crusaders (8-1) face off. Not only do the teams have the top win-loss records in the area this season, but they have the top two team averages in the state.
Last January, Brother Martin set a state record in its 20-7 victory over Jesuit at AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner. The Crusaders finished the three-game match with a total pinfall of 4,012 – the only time a Louisiana school has exceeded 4,000 in a match – while the Blue Jays set a then-school record with a 3,777 team series. Five different bowlers fired 700 series in last year’s match.
Jesuit flirted with the three-game record last week and set the state two-game record of 2,716 in a victory over Patrick Taylor at Westside Lanes in Harvey. The Blue Jays finished the match with a three-game total of 3,951.
Monday’s match features bowlers with the six highest averages in the New Orleans region, led by Brother Martin senior Drew Gardner at 220. Jesuit senior Ben Hunn is second at 216.
Both teams’ only loss of 2021 came on Feb. 8 at Premier Lanes in Gonzales to Baton Rouge-area teams. Brother Martin had a 49-match winning streak covering four seasons snapped in a 20-7 loss to Catholic High, while Jesuit fell 15-12 to Central, which was the No. 1-ranked team in the regular season each of the last two years.
While the outcome of Monday’s match will play a part in seeding for next month’s state tournament, both teams will remain strong contenders for the team title, regardless of the outcome.
The Crescent City Sports team is in its 10th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced broadcasts of more than 300 live games since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2020-21.
