With another exciting American Legion campaign in the books, Jesuit based Retif Oil and Fuel produced a successful season behind explosive hitting and solid pitching.

After winning the state tournament, Retif traveled for the Regional Tournament in Pelham, AL, for an early matchup with Troy, AL. Troy showed why they won their state by handing Retif an early five to nothing loss. Instead of folding under the pressure, Retif kept its fighting spirit.

The team bounced back in the second round behind a complete game shutout by Ryan Porche. Luke Brandau delivered a two-RBI double in the sixth to secure the two to nothing victory.

In their second elimination game, the bats truly came alive. William Good stole the show by pitching seven plus and producing three hits in the 11-3 victory. Tripp Haddad and Holden Hess also contributed two hits to put the game out of reach.

Unfortunately, the third elimination matchup would be their last. Retif Oil and Fuel jumped out to an early 9-2 lead after two innings, but Tupelo would not go away easily.

Tupelo would score six runs in the sixth inning to take a late 10-9 lead, but Brandau hit a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. In the first inning of extras, Tupelo scored two runs and obtained the final lead of the contest. Haddad scored Giovanni Licciardi on a single to cut the lead to one, but he was left stranded to end the game.

Hayden Morris contributed superior defense and contact hitting while Collin Loupe always seemed to be on base throughout the tournament.

With a state title and two Regional wins under its belt, the 2021 Retif Oil and Fuel American Legion team will hang up its gloves and spikes for the time being, but one thing can be assured: this team will be ready and waiting come next spring.
