Sophomore Spencer Lanosga Wins National Wrestling Championship

After playing an integral role at the Louisiana state wrestling meet earlier this season by winning his weight class, sophomore Spencer Lanosga captured a national title at the National High School Coaches Association tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia this past weekend.

The sophomore Blue Jay opened the weekend by pinning two opponents in a row and then sweeping the semifinal round with an 11-0 score. Finally facing Sebastian Lopez from Kansas in the championship matchup, Lanosga handily defeated his opponent 4-1 in the 285-pound final.

Jesuit’s Spencer Lanosga won a national wrestling championship and Shaw’s Glenn Price reached the finals at the National High School Coaches Association championships that concluded Saturday in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Lanosga won the sophomore division championship when he defeated Kansas high school champion Sebastian Lopez in the 285-pound final. The top-seeded Lanosga pinned his first two opponents. He won his semifinal 11-0.

Lanosga placed second in the freshman division last year. He is a two-time LHSAA Division I state finalist and won a state championship in February.
