A Festive Harmony: Jesuit’s Candlelit Choir and Concert Band Celebrate the Season
Blue Jay parents and friends gathered in the Jesuit auditorium on Saturday, December 16 as the Blue Jay Band and choir transformed the room, adorned with blue and white icicle lights, with harmonious sounds and songs of the holiday season. An alumni brass ensemble opened the evening as audience members found their seats. Jeff Miraflor, S.J., led the candlelit choir in an a cappella rendition of holiday favorites such as “What Child Is This” and “The First Noël.”
Following the choir’s performance, the concert band, led by band director Joseph Caluda, graced the stage. Caluda shared his appreciation for the audience’s support, which has significantly contributed to the band’s successful year. The Blue Jay band featured twenty-three alumni performing in concert with current members.
After several musical pieces, with classics like “Mary Did You Know,” Caluda highlighted the recent achievements of band members at the Louisiana Music Educators Association District VI Marching Festival. The Blue Jay Marching Band secured a sweepstakes award. Senior drum major Mark Johnson stood out with his own “superior” rating for the night. Caluda also recognized numerous members who have been named to the 2023-2024 LMEA Honor Bands:
