Decades of Swimming Excellence
For over 40 years, Jesuit’s swim program has been a beacon of athletic achievement and dedication. This storied organization has cultivated outstanding swimmers and coaches, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
Among the program’s recent highlights, rising senior Enzo Solitario has showcased exceptional talent at the 2023 LHSAA State swim meet by setting a new best time of 44.40 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, and an impressive 20.31 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. Most recently, Solitario competed in the 2024 Olympic trials this past summer. Solitario’s hard work and determination epitomize the spirit of Jesuit’s swim team, inspiring younger athletes to strive for greatness.
Longtime teacher and swim coach, Bret Haneman ’85, has been a cornerstone of the swim program. The program secured 41 consecutive district championships with more than half of them under his leadership, as well as state championships, and several broken records. Haneman’s commitment to the sport and to Jesuit athletes was instrumental in maintaining the program’s high standards and fostering a culture of success.
Jesuit’s swim legacy also boasts the contributions of storied coach Steve Bultman ‘66. A two-time U.S. Olympic Team coach and 2015 American Swim Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, Bultman recently retired as the women’s swim coach at Texas A&M after 25 years as head coach. Bultman’s influence on Jesuit’s swim program remains significant. His expertise and leadership while at Jesuit have helped shape the program into a powerhouse, producing swimmers who excel both in and out of the pool.
Brett Dipuma ’14, new head swim coach, hosted an alumni swim meet Saturday, August 17, at Green Acres Country Club. The event brought together Jesuit swim alums from various eras, fostering camaraderie and rekindling the spirit of competition. The meet served as a testament to the enduring bonds formed through the swim program and a celebration of its rich history.
As Jesuit looks back on these decades of triumph, the swim program continues to thrive, driven by a rich history and a promising future. With dedicated coaches and talented athletes, Jesuit remains committed to excellence in swimming and to the broader mission of forming well-rounded individuals.
