Jesuit Swim Takes First at Metro Dual

The swim team recently demonstrated its aquatic endurance at the Metro Dual meet held at Southern University at New Orleans, securing top spots across various events. The team’s performance highlighted Blue Jay swimmers’ dedication and skill, setting a high standard for the season under the leadership of the program’s new head coach, Brett Dipuma ’14.

In the 200-yard freestyle, senior Enzo Solitario led the charge with a winning time of 1:45.63. His teammates, senior Luke Balhoff and senior Evan Kee, finished close behind, securing second and third places with times of 1:54.41 and 1:56.10, respectively.

In the 200-yard individual medley, senior Nathan Flynn captured third with a strong finish at 2:18.49. Flynn also excelled in the 100-yard backstroke, placing second with a time of 59.17, just behind junior Aidan Villars who clocked in at 57.59.

Solitario once again displayed his speed in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in first at 47.50. Balhoff followed with a second-place finish at 51.66.

The relay events highlighted Jesuit’s teamwork and depth. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Solitario, Balhoff, Villars, and freshman Conor Samuels, clinched first place with a time of 1:32.99. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, featuring Solitario, Balhoff, Samuels, and Villars, also took first with an impressive 3:27.28.

Coach Dipuma shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “I’m excited about this upcoming season. The team has been working hard, and so far has performed well in practice. I think the last two meets have been an encouraging measuring stick to see what we need to do moving forward.”

Jesuit totaled 228 points, leading the competition and leaving Holy Cross in second with 156 points. This performance sets a promising tone for the rest of the season.
