Blue Jay Band Enchants Guests with “An Evening of Christmas Magic”
Under the expert leadership of Joe Caluda ’79 and Jason Giaccone, the concert band, jazz band, and Philelectic Society vocal ensemble delivered a captivating performance that ushered in the holiday spirit.
Blue Jay parents and friends gathered in a winter wonderland transformed auditorium, adorned with blue and white icicle lights. The evening began with Patrick Cragin ‘06 leading the Philelectic Society vocal ensemble with holiday favorites, including “Were You There On That Night,” as the audience settled into their seats.
Following the choral delights, an alumni brass ensemble opened the show to set a joyful tone. Concert band, directed by Caluda, took the stage and played several holiday scores. Caluda expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of the audience, which has greatly contributed to the band’s successful year. The Blue Jay Band featured over 20 alumni performing alongside current members, creating a rich and nostalgic sound.
The concert band performed several classic pieces, such as “Wizards in Winter” and “Holy Night, Silent Night.” Caluda took a moment to highlight the recent accomplishments of band members at the Louisiana Music Educators Association District VI Marching Festival. He also recognized the following members who have been named to the 2024-2025 LMEA Honor Bands:

The evening concluded with the jazz band, directed by Giaccone, delivering smooth, light sounds. The concert’s ambiance was further enhanced by the lighting and special effects, including a delightful snowfall, provided by DJ Galiano ’07.
A reception followed in the Student Commons, where guests shared in the joy of the season, reflecting on a truly magical evening of music and community.
