Holy Cross and Jesuit have become the most decorated schools in Louisiana history in terms of team state championships, with Holy Cross securing 28 titles and Jesuit 25.

Currently, the Blue Jays have three wrestlers leading the Crescent City Wrestling individual statewide rankings– senior Bode Harris at 132 pounds, senior Jose Rincon at 138 pounds, and sophomore Isaac Orillion at 150 pounds.

The wrestling team secured a decisive 47–20 victory over Holy Cross this past weekend, solidifying their status as the leading team in the state. This triumph was marked by a series of commanding performances that set the tone for the dual.

The Jays established an early lead with strong wins from Rincon, Harris, junior Christopher Stricker, junior JP Webre, Orillion, and senior Harris Treuting, building a 20-point advantage. The momentum continued with victories from seniors Cam Himel, Caden Sanderson, and Griffen Ellis, propelling the team to an impressive 35 points with three matches remaining. In the final bouts, Jesuit secured two more wins thanks to juniors Michael Barnett and Max Belsome.

A highlight of the day was Barnett’s exceptional performance, where he defeated a previously undefeated wrestler from Holy Cross. Reflecting on his success, Barnett remarked, “I’m just trying to wrestle my best and show that Jesuit wrestlers work their hardest every match.”

Following the dual, head coach Jon Orillion ’01 expressed pride in the team’s dedication, noting, “To go out there and control the mat and not let your opponent do anything and score any points shows that they are doing the right things and putting themselves in a good position for another state championship.”

Jesuit also took the opportunity to honor its 1989 and 2009 state champions, as well as recent graduate and three-time state champion Spencer Lanosga ’24, at Saturday’s dual.
