Commencement Luncheon

Held each year on Senior Day, Commencement Luncheon is the moment at which graduating Blue Jays are formally welcomed into the Jesuit Alumni Association. Jesuit’s principal and a prominent alumnus will address the seniors and gathered alumni. This year’s speaker is Michael McGarry ’76.
McGarry was a member of the Blue Jay Band, MCJROTC, the wrestling team, and the bowling team, serving as captain. He began his career with PPG in 1981 as an engineer in Lake Charles and advanced through management assignments in Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Bangkok, and Switzerland. McGarry played an instrumental role in transforming PPG’s global footprint by guiding more than 60 strategic acquisitions and divestitures.
He was elevated to executive vice president in 2012, became chief operating officer in 2014, was named president and CEO in 2015, and assumed the roles of Chairman and CEO in 2016, serving until his retirement in October 2023. He now lends his expertise as a board member with United States Steel Corporation, C.H. Robinson, Holcim, and Shin-Etsu Chemical Company. He is a member of Jesuit’s National Advisory Board.
