Tennis Nets Early Wins, Eyes District Showdown

The tennis team opened its season in February with commanding victories at the Parkview Invitational in Baton Rouge. Team A defeated Brother Martin, Barb, and St. Thomas More, while Team B bested Live Oak, Catholic, and Brother Martin.
In March, the team was seeded first in the McGill Toolen Invitational tournament in Mobile, Alabama. Team A—made up of junior Alton Swan, senior Jake Bravo, senior Leo Congeni, senior Scott Harper, junior Cody Martinez, and senior Andrew Cavallino—advanced to the playoffs, ultimately finishing in third place among 48 teams from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida.
The Jays have continued to build momentum: last week, the team posted impressive scores against Ben Franklin (8–0), Newman (7–1), and St. Thomas More (8–3).
In individual play, Bravo won his singles in line one (8–2) and, alongside Cavallino, secured an 8–2 win in doubles line two. Congeni and Harper claimed an 8–1 victory in doubles line one. In addition, Congeni won his singles in line two (8–1), and Harper contributed an 8–0 win in doubles line three. Senior Gabe Goodson and junior JP Costella teamed up in doubles line three, earning an 8–2 win.
This afternoon, the varsity will face longtime tennis rival Brother Martin in a highly anticipated district matchup at City Park at 4 p.m.
