For the second year in a row, over 80 members of Jesuit’s Mu Alpha Theta and Chi Alpha Mu, led by Kate Brauner, captured a state championship at the Louisiana Mu Alpha Theta Convention in Baton Rouge. More than 30 schools – roughly 820 students – competed at this annual event, in which participants tackled individual and grade-level tests and faced off in four math games—Ciphering, Gemini, Hustle, and Descartes. Students were grouped according to their current math class: Mu (Calculus), Alpha (Precalculus), Theta (Algebra II), and Geometry.

The mathletes spent hours practicing during lunch, preparing independently, and meeting with their math coaches to secure a repeat victory—the third championship in four years. Their team scored a total of 610 points, more than 100 points ahead of the closest competitor and surpassing any school’s record in the history of the Louisiana Mu Alpha Theta State Convention.

The convention’s competitive events include area tests, individual tests, games, and an interschool test.
