Birdies Help Jays Soar Past Crusaders and Raiders

With birdies and scores in the 30s, the Jesuit golf team soared past Brother Martin and Rummel on March 21 and 22, respectively. Three Blue Jays posted sub-40 numbers against the Crusaders at Bayou Oaks (City Park South), and a different trio tallied even lower 30-scores for the Raider match at English Turn. Senior Addison Bui was the constant, shooting a 77 (39-38) over the 2-day stretch.

Senior Jake Kuebel on hole 2 at English Turn | Kuebel birdied holes 2, 4, and 6 in his bogey-free round.
On Thursday the talk around the clubhouse was senior Jake Kuebel, who lit up the front nine at English Turn with a streaky three-under 33. Kuebel’s 33 was grouped with two 38s from Bui and fellow senior Grayson Glorioso. Senior Jack Vollenweider closed out Jesuit’s top four with a solid 41 (+5). Jesuit (11-0) capably defeated Rummel for the second time this spring, winning 150-224. The team celebrated Senior Day against Rummel, so head golf coach Owen Seiler ’75 started all seniors in the Top 5. With this lineup, Jesuit carded its lowest team score this spring, a 150 (+6).
Kuebel’s three-under round ties his personal best as a Blue Jay golfer.
On Wednesday at Bayou Oaks, Jesuit was led by seniors JT Holmes (+2) and Addison Bui (+3), and junior Jackson Maniscalco (+3). Junior John Bendernagel and freshman Si Holmes each turned in 43 (+7). These efforts were more than sufficient as the Jays flew by Br. Martin with a 22-shot win, 159-181.
To promote team unity and development, Coach Seiler has yet to play all five starters at once in a 9-hole district match. Now 11-0 (6-0, spring) on the season, the undefeated Blue Jays complete their district schedule on April 3 against Holy Cross. Jesuit looks ahead to the District Championship on April 16 at Beau Chene Country Club.
