Basketball Sharpshooters Outshine Rummel, 55-33

On Saturday night, the Blue Jay basketball team put together a momentous 2nd Quarter to work their way past Rummel, 55-33. Much excitement surrounded the contest featuring former Jesuit assistant coach Scott Thompson, who is now at the helm of the Raider basketball program. The win improved the Jays’ district record to 2-0 (21-2 overall) as they look ahead to Holy Cross and Shaw this week.

After a very evenly paced 1st Quarter, the Blue Jays came alive from behind the arc in the 2nd, knocking down five three-pointers and outscoring the Raiders 19-5. Elijah Morgan tallied three of them on his way to 26 points for the night and a 67% three-point percentage. Nick Artigues and Robert McMahon accounted for the other two long-balls.

The Jays went into the locker room with a 30-14 halftime lead. A fast-paced effort by the Raiders late in the 3rd Quarter narrowed the lead 10 points, but a timeout allowed the Jays to make the proper adjustments to get back in the driver’s seat and finish the game ahead by 22 points. The Jays shot well on the night, going 48% from the field and 42% from three-point territory.

Catch more Jesuit basketball action this week with a pair of district games. The Jays will play Holy Cross at home in the Birdcage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Then they face Shaw at Shaw on Friday.
