Soccer Claims District with 3-0 Win over Crusaders

ShareThe District 6-I Soccer Championship title remains at Carrollton and Banks. With cameras and fans at every corner of John Ryan Stadium, the Jesuit High School (JHS) soccer team shut out arch-rival Brother Martin, 3-0, on Saturday to win its second straight Division I District 6 crown.
The Blue Jays scored all three goals in the first half; and the goals came in three different ways from three different players—seniors Arthur Ross, Preston Bordes, and Jacob Torres.
Ross’s score in the 14th minute was due to a perfectly lofted lead pass from Bennett Mansour. In minute 32, Gabe Gordon‘s long throw-in bounced twice in the box for Bordes to find the net on a right-footed shot past the Crusader keeper. And just before the first half horn, Torres scored on a right-footed dinker over the keeper. It was a great counter-attacking effort by Torres and Trevor Reichman, who earned the assist on the third and final goal.

“It’s great to defend our district title,” head soccer coach Hubie Collins said after the game. “Hats off to all of the players. It was a hard-fought game by both teams. As far as depth goes, we are very fortunate to have such a deep, strong squad. When new players come onto the field, we don’t feel like there is any drop-off. In fact, we feel there’s an elevation.”

Jesuit (18-0-4) returns to the Alumni Field pitch at John Ryan Stadium on Tuesday for a non-district match against Holy Cross. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
