The 2013-2014 Blue Jay Band program has hit another high note. In this case, three of them. A trio of musically-gifted Jays were named to the prestigious All-State Band.

Senior Richard Williams, junior Patrick Fine and sophomore Jae Kweon were chosen among the thousands of students from across Louisiana who auditioned. Kwon played alto sax in the All-State Concert Band. Williams (baritone) and Fine (trumpet) played in the All-State Symphonic Band. The state-wide competition took place at Lafayette High School in Lafayette. The concerts were in Baton Rouge on Monday, Nov. 25.

Also worth “noting” is that all three Jesuit students were recognized with the additional distinction of having attained academic excellence.

The All-State Band program is run by the Louisiana Music Educators Association. Jesuit’s band program is led by Mr. Joe Caluda ’79 and Mr. Jason Giaccone.

Earlier this year, the Blue Jay Marching Band received a mark of overall excellence in the District VI Marching Band Festival held at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie.
