The no-nonsense Blue Jay baseball team appeared determined to dominate its host tournament, the Jesuit Invitational, which concluded Saturday, March 7. The Jays did just that, winning back-to-back nail-biters over Harrison Central (MS) and Catholic (Baton Rouge), both in walk-off fashion, to complete a clean sweep at John Ryan Stadium.

Following Thursday’s 6-2 victory over Belle Chasse and Friday’s 11-0 win over East Ascension, the Pinstripers found themselves in their first dilemna of the weekend in Game 1 on Saturday. They were leading Harrison Central 2-0 the whole game but surrendered two runs in the top of the 7th. A walk-off, RBI double by Collin Loupe scored Gordon Kitziger for a 3-2 win. Canaan Clayton pitched six innings and was helped out by Jack Larriviere, who earned the win on the mound.

Jump to the 7th inning of Game 2 against Catholic, where the Bears scored a run to tie the game. But the bottom of the inning saw a speedy Collin Loupe reach on an error just as he did to score in the one-run 5th. Zack Casebonne was then hit by a pitch, setting the stage for junior Tripp Haddad to hit an absolute moon shot off the left field wall and walk it off for a 2-1 victory! Jesuit (9-1) returns to action next Friday in the Jay Patterson Tournament at Gonzales against Sulphur while Catholic (6-2) will host Central Tuesday at 4 p.m.
