Eight student-athletes from Jesuit High School of New Orleans are making commitments to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. This ceremony is presented virtually to honor the accomplishments of these athletes during the school closure.

Jesuit congratulates these eight Blue Jays for their hard-work and resolve as student-athletes:

Chris Favalora (Baseball) – Spring Hill College (Mobile, AL)

Jesuit’s head baseball coach, Kenny Goodlett, had this to say about Favalora:

“Chris Favalora is a three-year letterman at Jesuit and was an integral part of the team’s success during that time. Chris’s speed in the outfield enables him to have great range, and his arm strength provides him with the ability to make great plays. In addition to having those critical skills, Chris’s work ethic and energy on and off the field will serve him well in the future. We are excited about his opportunity at Spring Hill.”

Michael Foley (Swimming) – Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA)

Jesuit’s head swimming coach, Brett Hanemann ’85, had this to say about Foley:

“Michael Foley has been an outstanding representative of Jesuit swimming for the last four years. He has been outstanding in every sense of the word. Not only what he does in the pool – a state champion, a city champion – but always his sportsmanship is what I have been so impressed with over the years. It has never been about Michael; it has always been about the team. Senior year Michael came to me saying he would really like to swim the 50 and the 100 backstroke, but said, ‘Coach, wherever you need me.’ You don’t find many athletes like that. LSU is getting an unbelievable swimmer, but more importantly, they are getting an unbelievable teammate.”

Kyle Haupt (Basketball) – Millsaps College (Jackson, MS)

Jesuit’s head basketball coach, Chris Jennings ’78, had this to say about Haupt:

“As Kyle Haupt prepares for his next journey in life, he will be missed by the Jesuit basketball program. A great example to our younger players, Kyle lived our motto of being a FILO – first in, last out. Always trying to perfect his craft with hard work and purpose. Millsaps College will be getting a young man of great character who is smart and has a tremendous work effort. I have no doubt that he will have great success at the next level and wish him the best.”

Luke LaCour (Cross Country) – University of Dallas (Dallas, TX)

Jesuit’s head cross country coach, Rudy Hoorvath ’78, had this to say about LaCour:

 “The University of Dallas is getting one of Jesuit’s finest in Luke LaCour. A team leader, a tough competitor, and a coachable spirit are the qualities that come to mind about Luke. I’ve had the pleasure to watch Luke grow from an 8^th grader who jokingly asked to be the captain of the junior high cross country team to a young man who grew into and took charge of the leadership roles of the 2019 Varsity cross country team. Leading all the runs, barking out the next exercise in the core circuit, or giving pre-race pep talks are examples of the responsibilities that Luke readily accepted. Luke is just beginning to learn how talented he is. Coming off an injury-plagued start in his junior year track season, Luke bounced back and helped lead the 4×800 Relay team to a state qualifying spot. Luke’s success during that track season shed light on his potential. After a strong summer of training, Luke’s confidence grew even more. In the district most coaches would agree is the toughest in the state, Luke won the 2019 individual cross country district title. To top it all off, Luke is one of the most sincere and coachable young men I have had the privilege to work with while at Jesuit.”

Sebi Maraldo (Soccer) – Millsaps College (Jackson, MS)

Jesuit’s head soccer coach, Hubie Collins, had this to say about Maraldo:

“On behalf of the Jesuit High School soccer program, many congratulations to Sebi Maraldo and his family on committing to Millsaps College. While attending Jesuit Sebi proudly represented the soccer program for all five years of his enrollment. Sebi predominately played as a forward for Jesuit. Sebi’s instincts in front of goal were excellent, and scoring headed goals was his specialty. However, Sebi also worked hard for his team defensively, and he was admired and respected by his fellow student athletes. We wish Sebi all the best both on and off the soccer field while attending Millsaps College. We are confident that Sebi will continue to keep his high academic standards while giving his all on the field.”

Jojo Sandoz (Tennis) – Christian Brothers University (Memphis, TN)

Jesuit’s head tennis coach, Travis Smith, had this to say about Sandoz:

“Jojo Sandoz is signing an NCAA Division II Letter of Intent to play collegiate tennis at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, which competes in the Gulf South Conference. Jojo Sandoz has been a leader of Jesuit’s varsity tennis team for four years now, playing singles in the number one spot since his freshman year. Jojo’s excellence on the tennis court is triumphed only by his academic, social, and spiritual excellence. Christian Brothers University is gaining an exemplary young man, a true leader, who has many God-given gifts, tennis being only one of them.”

Seth Trotter (Soccer) – Johnson & Wales University (North Miami, FL)

Jesuit’s head soccer coach, Hubie Collins, had this to say about Trotter:

“The Jesuit High School Soccer Program would like to congratulate Seth Trotter and his family on Seth’s decision to study and play soccer at Johnson and Wales University in Miami, FL. Seth played mostly at the central defender position during his playing career at Jesuit. Seth is an outstanding athlete with tremendous speed and agility. Seth always played with grit and fierce determination, however Seth also displayed the highest level of sportsmanship. Seth helped co-captained this year’s varsity team, and he always led by example both on and off the field. We wish Seth every success on all his future endeavors.”

Pierce Westbrook (Tennis) – Howard University (Washington, D.C.)

Jesuit’s head tennis coach, Travis Smith, had this to say about Westbrook:

“Pierce Westbrook has been offered a preferred walk on position for Howard University’s tennis team. Pierce’s excellence on the court is only matched by his resilience and hard work, for Pierce’s is our team’s Most Improved Player in the past four years, rising from the team’s JV squad in his freshman year to our number-one doubles position in his senior year. Pierce truly understands that success is earned on the practice court, and Howard is blessed to have such a noble young man – a true fighter and class act – join their team next year.”
