Despite the lack of student activities available during the current pandemic, Blue Jays have found a way to keep busy whether at break, lunch, or an off period: ping-pong. In a stroke of pure genius, Mr. Orillion ’98, Jesuit’s Student Activities Director and COVID Coordinator, borrowed two tables from the Table Tennis Club to place in the Commons for students to use. Students immediately made full use of the new edition, playing before school, at break, during off periods, at lunch, and after school. “The ping-pong tables give us a nice break to just relax and have fun” says James Alvarez ’22.            

Recently, Student Council held a ping-pong tournament to raise funds for the Thanksgiving Drive. In a competition with dozens of students, Jake Bravo ’25 narrowly beat out Patrick May ’21 to take first prize, while our security guard LT won the Faculty and Staff Division. Overall, the ping-pong tables have provided students with much needed activities during their breaks, and I doubt that they will stay long past the pandemic.
