Jesuit Tennis Finishes Fourth at State
The terrific 2021 Jesuit tennis season came to an end on April 26, and the the Jays have a lot to take away from the hard-fought year. All five singles players & doubles teams won 1st round matches and impressed throughout.
The solid and deep Jesuit team placed fourth in state this year. First year Coach Bill Jepsen is confident that Jesuit will continue to improve and be even more competitive, as it continues to try to keep pace with the strongest high school tennis teams in the state of Louisiana.
Results
Doubles team Grayson Chanove & Connor Cain defeated Brinson & Ardoin of Slidell, 6-1, 6-0. They then lost in the 2nd round to a very good doubles team, Ellis & Johnson of Ruston, 0-6, 3-6.
Doubles team James Bostick & Ethan Morgan defeated Chu & Raney of C.E. Byrd, 6-1, 6-2. They then also lost in the 2nd round to a very good doubles team – the Beckendorf brothers of St. Paul, 1-6, 2-6.
Doubles team David Webster & Nick Crockens defeated Nguyen & Normand of Lafayette, 6-1, 6-0. They also won in the 2nd round, defeating Salazar & Babineaux of Acadiana, 6-1, 6-0. The pair then lost a very long and highly competitive Quarterfinals match, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-12, against another strong St. Paul doubles team.
Nick Kapusta won his 1st round singles match, defeating Daigle of Fontainebleau, 6-1, 6-0. He then won his 2nd round match, defeating Stephenson of West Monroe, 6-4, 7-6 (3). In his Quarterfinals match, he lost to a very good player, Rice of Barbe, 6-0, 6-1.
Josh Verges won his 1st round singles match, defeating a very dangerous opponent, Moody of Sam Houston, 6-1, 3-6, 17-15. He then won his 2nd round match, defeating Batterton of West Monroe, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6. In his Quarterfinals match, he lost to one of the best players in the State, Fremaux of Baton Rough Catholic, 6-4, 2-6, 5-10.
