Hundreds of new Jays and their parents streamed onto campus on Saturday, May 8 for Jesuit’s 2021 Welcome Day. Representing dozens of area and regional middle schools—spanning from Lake Charles to Slidell and beyond—this newest class of Jesuit students received an introduction to the school’s mission, met their big brothers, and experienced their first pep rally.

After being greeted at the check-in table by a host of Jesuit parent volunteers, families were escorted to the large chapel by members of Jesuit’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. In the Chapel of the North American Martyrs, rising pre-freshmen and their parents met Jesuit’s president, Fr. John Brown, S.J. who spoke on behalf of the entire Jesuit community living at Carrollton & Banks. They were also addressed by co-admissions director Terry Ursin ’93 and chaplain Fr. Kevin Dyer, S.J.

While Jesuit’s newest students were touring campus with their big brothers, new Blue Jay parents heard from school administrators including admissions director Bret Hanemann ’85 on topics ranging from academics to volunteer opportunities.

The day ended with parents and students reuniting in the Traditions Courtyard with new parents getting the chance to meet their son’s big brothers for the first time.
