Junior Trey Laforge sinks two free throws with 4.2 seconds left to put Blue Jays in the lead and win the game, 62-60.

In the second district game of the season, Jesuit basketball played Brother Martin in the crimson and gold gym and made the victory all blue and white, 62-60. Coming off a tough loss to Rummel in district play last week, the Blue Jay record improves to 13-7, 1-1.

Juniors Trey LaForge (20 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists) and Foster Moreau (11 points, 10 rebounds) led the way with double doubles.

The Blue Jays led the first quarter with the help of senior Riley Conroy’s two three pointers, 22-19. The Crusaders answered with three-pointers of their own and tied it up at the half, 35-35.

Jesuit struggled to put points on the board in the third quarter and and fell behind 50-43. At the top of the fourth, the deficit was nine, but the Jays inched their way back, closing the spread.

With 2:50 minutes left, senior Brett Spansel made a three-pointer to tie the game at 55. A minute later, the Jays held onto a one point lead, 57-56, while in real foul trouble — three players had four fouls each: senior Grant Nichols and juniors Paul Kohnke and Foster Moreau.

The Crusaders went up by three, before Kohnke knotted the game at 60 with 26 seconds left.

With 4.2 seconds left, junior Trey LaForge stepped up to the free throw line. Blue Jays raised their hands and held their breath as LaForge sunk both shots put the Jays up 62-60. A last-second potential game winner from Brother Martin’s star, Jordan Cornish, just missed the mark.
