Jesuit Senior Jack Larriviere Achieves Eagle Scout Rank in Troop 230

This spring, Jesuit senior Jack Larriviere achieved the rank of Eagle Scout—scouting’s highest rank—as a member of Boy Scout Troop 230. The 60-year-old troop is based at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Metairie.
Larriviere’s eagle project educated Jesuit students about organ donation. He told an audience of Jesuit students and families that he took an interest in the topic when he initially checked “no” on the organ donor box for his learners permit.
“I went home, and my mom asked me about it,” said Larriviere. “She’s been in organ transplant for 20-plus years, and she went on to educate me about it.”
After learning more about the process and realizing that his misconceptions were likely shared by his peers, he decided to make it the focus of his eagle project. Larriviere partnered with the Legacy Donor Foundation to raise awareness in his community about the need for organ donors. The foundation notes that there are currently more than 1,900 people in Louisiana awaiting life-saving organ transplants, but that grassroots outreach does make a measurable, substantial impact.
A two-sport letterman, Larriviere, is the rising senior quarterback of the football team, a member of national honor society, and a big brother.
Of special note, Larriviere’s accomplishment is something of a family affair. Both of his brothers, Jacob Larriviere ’14 and Jarod Larriviere ’17 attained the rank of eagle scout as well. The trio of Jays are only the second three-brother-group in Troop 230’s history to all attain the eagle scout distinction. Together, the three have been in scouting for 30 years, earning 78 combined merit badges and hiking over 600 miles on camping trips spanning 325 nights. Jacob and Jarod’s eagle projects involved constructing tables for an Alzheimer’s Care Center and conducting a neighborhood food drive to benefit St. Vincent DePaul, respectively.
Jacob, a graduate of LSU and Loyola Law School, is currently studying for the BAR exam while Jarod, also an LSU alumnus, is now working as a process engineering intern at Rubicon Chemical Plant.
