Blue Jay Hoops Stung by Loss to Tigers, 53-49
Jesuit fell 53-49 to cross-town rival Holy Cross in a heated District 5A matchup between the teams, both of which came into the game sporting 1-1 district records. The Blue Jays led up until the final minutes of the fourth quarter when the Tigers took their first lead.
The Jays were led by junior Trey LaForge who scored 15 points and had six rebounds. Senior Grant Nichols added 10 points and seven rebounds. Seniors Brett Spansel and Riley Conroy contributed seven points each.
Jesuit scored first and led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Blue Jays kept the Tigers at bay and outscored them again in the second quarter to increase their lead at the half to 25-18.
Midway through the third quarter, the Jays were up by nine, but momentum shifted as the Blue Jays went cold from the field, scoring only eight points in the quarter and seeing their lead cut to one.
The game tied at 37 with 4 minutes left in the fourth. The lead see-sawed back and forth up until when the Tigers’ 8-0 run in the last two minutes sealed the victory for the Tigers.
