Mu Alpha Theta Heats Up as Weather Cools
On Saturday, January 15, 2022, 34 Jesuit students competed against 220 students from schools across Southeast Louisiana at the Brother Martin Mu Alpha Theta Tournament. At this tournament, the only calculator allowed was the one in their heads. Results are as follows:
On Individual Tests:
Geometry students Henry Lackey, Cole Maestri, and Rishab Prabhu performed well by placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively, on the Geometry Individual Test. Evans Wise received an Honorable Mention.
On the Algebra II Individual Test, sophomores Diego Fernandez, Pete Metzinger, and Mason Becker all received Honorable Mention.
Junior Leo Garcia placed 2nd on the Precalculus Individual Test. Ethan Benoit, Daniel Lee, and Wade Rogers all received Honorable Mention. Senior Louis Bercaw also received Honorable Mention for his Calculus AB Individual Test score.
In Team Events:
The Comp 1 Math Team of pre-freshman Lackey and freshmen Prabhu, Aidan Wang, and Wise came in 1st place.
The Comp 1.5 Math Team comprised of sophomores Tucker Schibler, Drew Haggerty, freshmen Kacey Cognevich, and Carter Rigney earned 2nd place.
The Comp 2 Math Team of junior Benoit along with sophomores Peter Le and William Bellot earned 1st place.
The Calculus AB Team comprised of seniors Mitchell Stevens, Bercaw, and Michael Nair earned 2nd place.
The Potpourri Team consisting of senior Matthew Vuong, sophomores Jonathan Jordan & Charlie Varisco, and freshman Cole Maestri earned 1st place.
Two teams went to the finals in Math Bowl after scoring top points in the Ciphering competition. Both the Algebra II Team composed of sophomores Dylan Patel, Diego Fernandez, David Paul, and Pete Metzinger and the Precalculus Team of juniors Ethan Lago, Leo Garcia, Daniel Lee, and Wade Rogers came in 2nd place.
While these teams were competing in finals, the other Jays competed in an Interschool Test with both the Upper Interschool team of seniors & juniors and the Lower Interschool team of sophomores & freshmen walking away with 1st place.
