Mock Drunk Driving Crash Offers Insight and Perspective to Blue Jays

Juniors and seniors attended a mock crash today under the guidance Jesuit’s student development program coordinated by Mr. Christian Harris. The students watched a dramatic presentation of the events which occur at a drunk driving accident. After the presentation, state troopers, medical professionals, and counselors were available to answer questions.
The mock crash is a portrayal of a motor vehicle crash to increase the awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence, driving unrestrained and high risk taking behaviors that result in motor vehicle crashes. Counselors and emergency workers stressed the importance of strong communication between parents and their teenage sons and daughters with hopes to prevent a tragedy, like this, from happening.
The event is an opportunity to increase the awareness and compliance of the Louisiana traffic safety laws, reinforce healthy decision making skills and decrease the number of injuries and fatalities associated with motor vehicle crashes.
Participating in the event were: junior Connor Hill and his mother Debbie; sophomore Thomas Hellmers and his mother Stephanie; senior Christopher Dupre and his mother Shirley; and senior Billy Healy. The participants were cast and coached by Philelectic Society director Kate Arthurs,
The event was held in coordination with Jesuit’s Student Development Department and Philelectic Society, LSU Interim Hospital Trauma Injury Unit, Louisiana State Police, New Orleans EMS, and New Orleans Coroner’s Office.
