Bowlers Bow to Spirited Eagles
Seldom are high school bowling contests decided in the final few frames. But that’s exactly what happened in the match between Jesuit and Archbishop Shaw on Thursday, Feb. 3. In a spirited match at Westside Lanes in Harvey, Archbishop Shaw edged Jesuit, 16-11.
Seniors Luke Wood’s 260, Collin Pearce’s 243, and junior Will Carpenter’s 205 helped give the Jays a 6-2 lead after game one of the match.
In game two, Carpenter’s 214, Woods’ 210, and a 205 by senior Gary Sims left the match tied heading into the third and final set of games.
Although Jesuit won three of the final six head-to-head contests, the Eagles’ team pin advantage in game three (21 pins) and in the overall match (just 37 pins) clinched Shaw’s non-district victory. The winning team of each set of games is awarded two bonus points. The team with the most pins in the match receives three additional points.
The Jays are 4-2. They will face St. Therese Academy of Metairie on Monday, Feb. 7, and Kenner Discovery on Thursday, Feb. 10. Both matches will be played at AMF in Kenner.
