Results:
- The track team’s distance runners continued their record-breaking season this past weekend at the Dallas Distance Festival. Sophomore Michael Vocke broke the Louisiana sophomore record, running the two mile race in nine minutes and six seconds to finish second overall. This time currently ranks Michael as the second fastest sophomore in America. Junior Jack DesRoches followed close behind in third with a new personal best time of nine minutes and seven seconds. Jack is currently the #7 Junior in America. Sophomore Lucas Sampedro finished 4th with a time of nine minutes and 11 seconds. Lucas’s performance ranks him 5th in America among all sophomores. Juniors Robert Buisson and Patrick Dowd also ran new lifetime bests, running 9:18 and 9:22 respectively. Michael, Jack Lucas, Bob, and Patrick now account 5 of the top 6 times in Jesuit history. Not to be outdone, Freshman Leland Crawford ran the mile in 4 minutes and 15 seconds. This time broke the Louisiana freshman record, as well as the sophomore and junior record. Even more impressive, Crawford’s time is the 17th faster performance outdoors by a freshman in American history.
- The Jesuit Rugby Team scored two late tries to pull away and defeat Brother Martin 35 – 19 in a hotly contested game played under the lights on Friday night in City Park. Just when it looked like Brother Martin might pull off an upset, Jesuit scored two late tries. Excellent match performances from Nathan Williams, Nick Ferrina, Matt Cashio, Timmy Peterman, and Conlan Pausina.
- On Saturday, the Varsity Quiz Bowl team competed in the Louisiana State Championship Tournament. The team of captain Andrew Cavignac, Zane Madi, Conlan Pausina, and Wade Rogers flew through the preliminary rounds with a perfect record to advance to the playoff rounds. In the playoffs, the team suffered their only loss of the tournament to eventual champion Caddo Magnet, but they easily defeated the remaining playoff teams to claim second place in the state. Zane Madi was the 5th-highest scoring individual in the state.
