Nobody on Jesuit’s 2013-14 edition of varsity soccer thought winning a third consecutive state championship for the school would be easy. Nothing has been easy for this team and the Jays still have a long way to go to achieve the team’s ultimate goal of successfully defending a state title.

On Tuesday, the Blue Jays will be chasing Tornadoes. Jesuit must travel a long way west, across the state to Sulphur, which is just outside Lake Charles, on Tuesday, Feb. 18 to play the Golden Tors of Sulphur High School in a quarterfinals match that kicks off at 5 p.m.

The 14th seeded Golden Tors, or Tornadoes, play host to 6th seeded Jesuit because Sulphur pulled the upset thus far of the state tournament by defeating 3rd seeded Catholic High last Friday on the Bears’ home field. Since Sulphur has already had a road trip and Jesuit’s first two playoff games were at John Ryan Stadium, the rule is that the Jays must do the traveling.

Whether the Jays win or not in this quarterfinals match, the victor will face the winner of the Captain Shreve – St. Paul’s game in a semifinals game on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Blue Jays just need to stay focused and take it one match at a time. Two down, three to go.
