Blue Jays Score Beyond the Arc in District Game vs. Rummel
The Jesuit-Rummel basketball rivalry provided for an electrifying atmosphere at the Benson Arena on Tuesday, January 9. The Gizzard, dressed to monitor traffic, was present alongside the MJROTC, the Blue Jay Band, and the Jesuit Cheerleaders.
The Blue Jays and the Raiders were closely matched during the first half with robust defensive performances from both schools. Entering the third quarter, Jesuit gained momentum with a series of impressive three-pointers from sophomore Zachary LaGraize, who spearheaded the Blue Jays’ offensive surge contributing 18 points overall.
Junior Brewer Nitcher contributed 13 points, secured six rebounds, and made four blocks. Senior Jude LaForge added 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Additionally, junior Ethan Lapeze chipped in with 6 points, each playing a pivotal role in the 15-point victory over the Raiders.
“We have a great locker room,” commented head coach Christopher Jennings ’78 about the team’s depth-of-roster. “They’ve been staying together, they pull for each other really hard. We’ve got some size. We’ve got some kids who can shoot. We’ve got guys who can defend.”
The Jays finished with a 47-32 win, setting their sights on the upcoming district matchup at John Curtis scheduled for this Friday, January 12 at 7 p.m.
