In an emphatic display of skill and Blue Jay Spirit, the wrestling team claimed its first District Championship since 2009. The team, under the guidance of head coach Jon Orillion ’01, showcased a remarkable performance in the New Orleans district wrestling meet, leading to a Catholic League title.

The event, which also served as the team’s Senior Day, was a testament to the dedication and prowess of Jesuit’s senior wrestlers. Among these seniors were Patrick Matthews, Spencer Lanosga, Keegan Spiers, Dominic Carollo, manager Jesse Martínez, Nathan Wiseman, captain Arthur Schott, Jackson Calderaro, and Carter Corsetti. Their contributions throughout their tenure at Jesuit have been integral to the team’s success.

The Blue Jays’ journey to the title was marked by a series of decisive victories. They topped Rummel with a score of 58-20, overwhelmed St. Augustine in an 84-0 shutout, and triumphed with a hard-fought 41-32 win against Brother Martin.

Notably, Orillion and Schott recently moved up weight classes. This tactical move paid off, as both wrestlers secured significant wins, contributing crucially to the team’s overall victory. Furthermore, seniors Schott, Calderaro, and Lanosga stepped up, each securing pins that ultimately clinched the district title for Jesuit.

Reflecting on the season’s success, Orillion expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments.

“It was a great end to the regular season and sets us up very well for this last two-week push to state. A lot to be proud of.” he commented.

His sentiments encapsulate the high spirits and confidence within the team as they embark on two crucial weeks of training and preparation for the upcoming LHSAA state meet.
