This week marks the commencement of the Lenten Mission Drive at Jesuit, an annual tradition throughout the Lenten season. This drive unites Jesuit’s young men, faculty, and staff in a collective effort to raise funds in support of missions both within New Orleans and beyond. Lent, a period dedicated to sacrifice, almsgiving, prayer, and renewal in Christ, presents a perfect opportunity for the Jesuit community to practice generosity and aid those in need.

The proceeds from this year’s mission drive will be dedicated to two vital missions. The first is the People of Kyrgyzstan mission, spearheaded by Fr. Anthony Corcoran, S.J. This mission provides critical support to the local Christian community in Kyrgyzstan, offering not only spiritual guidance but also essential aid such as nourishment, summer camps for children with mental disabilities, and other daily necessities.

In addition, we are supporting a local non-profit organization, the Harry Tompson Center, located in downtown New Orleans. The Harry Tompson Center operates as a collaborative day shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness, offering accessible services aimed at enhancing quality of life. With a commitment to serving guests’ fundamental needs, the center focuses on hygiene, health, hospitality, and housing as its core areas of service.

A goal has been set to raise $15,000 through various fundraising activities during the Lenten period at the school. With a commitment to this cause, the hope is to not only achieve but surpass this target.
