Grant Jordan ’20 was recently named the starting quarterback for Yale University, picking up his first victory with a 23-22 win over Central Connecticut. Just before this game, the team’s matchup against Cornell was marked by a special Jesuit alumni connection. Jordan faced his former coach, Terry Ursin ’93, now an assistant coach at Cornell, when the two teams met on September 28 in Ithaca, New York.

Jordan, a New Orleans native, has worked his way up the ranks at Yale, showing his resilience and dedication to earn the starting role. His path to Yale began after a standout senior season at Jesuit, where he accounted for 29 touchdowns and threw for over 2,300 yards.

Ursin, now in his role at Cornell, coached Jordan during his time at Jesuit and contributed to his development as a player.

“Grant is an outstanding Blue Jay,” said Ursin, adding, “it’s great to meet a former student and fellow alumnus on the field, and it’s terrific to see a Blue Jay reflecting Jesuit’s mission in the Ivy League.”

Jordan’s debut as Yale’s quarterback will be marked with another auspicious meeting this weekend. Showcasing the ongoing impact of Jesuit’s football program on the collegiate stage, the Jays are also represented at Dartmouth College, where Roland Waguespack ’23 is on the roster. Dartmouth and Yale will meet on October 12 in New Haven for the next Blue Jay Ivy League showdown.

Blue Jays have made recent inroads in Ivy League athletics well beyond football. Cheering on Dartmouth from the stands will be runner Patrick Dowd ’23, who broke records for the Jays before heading to Hanover, and when Jordan takes on Harvard on November 23, Jesuit senior Brady Mullen will be wearing red in celebration of his recent commitment to run for the Crimson.
