Blue Jay Bowlers Roll into Bi-Regionals with 19-8 Win Over Tigers
The Blue Jay bowling team defeated Holy Cross, 19-8, in the LHSAA regional bowling tournament on Thursday, March 27 at AMF in Kenner. The team will move on to the bi-regionals to face Runnels from Baton Rouge on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Kenner.
Jesuit faced a driven Holy Cross team who bowled 61 pins above their per-game average for each of the three games. Jesuit bowled 79 pins below average the first two games which left the Jays tied at 8 to 8. The Blue Jays rallied in the third game to take the 11 remaining points by bowling 167 pins over average which beat their previous best by three pins.
Senior Chis Totaro bowled a 634 series with a 223 and a 226. Senior Andrew Prejean bounced back to bowl a 611 series with a 265 in the third game. Contributing to the win were sophomore Peyton Hidalgo with 243, junior Chris Ainsworth with 225, and junior Brett Lorio with 203.
2014 Boys Bowling Bracket (Bi-Regional to State Championship) (pdf)
If the Jays win the bi-regional (Baton Rouge and New Orleans) match on April 3, they will likely bowl the winner of Catholic High and Rummel to advance to the semi-finals on April 12.
As the number 3 seed in the bi-regionals, Jesuit will be on the opposite side the bracket from rival Brother Martin. This placement afford the Jays the opportunity to face the Crusaders one more time this year—this time, in a neutral bowling alley. If the two teams do meet again, it will be in Baton Rouge in the final game of the season for the 2014 state championship. It’s up to the Blue Jays to hold their own and win the four matches it will take to reach the finals.
