Blue Jay Band & Jayettes Achieve High Marks at LMEA Marching Festival
The Blue Jay Marching Band along with the Jayettes, recently showcased an impressive performance at the 2024 LMEA District VI Marching Assessment Festival, held at Joe Yenni Stadium. The expertise and leadership of director of bands Joe Caluda ’79, associate director Jason Giaccone, Jayette moderator Susan deBoisblanc, and Jayette coach Erin Castille were evident in every note and step.
Their show, titled “Dream,” captivated audiences with intricate formations and seamless coordination, featuring original music and skillfully executed movements. The program included music by Imagine Dragons and selections from the movie “The Greatest Showman.” The band achieved a “II” overall rating, excelling in specific categories with a “I” in percussion, auxiliary, and drum major. The Jayettes contributed dynamic routines that enhanced the overall impact of the performance.
The show’s complexity was notable, with intricate music and challenging drill formations. In addition to the standard winds and battery percussion, the performance featured a sideline auxiliary percussion and electronics section, which included an electric guitar, electric bass, and four synthesizers. This innovative approach added depth and excitement to the show.
The Blue Jay Marching Band was recognized with several awards at the festival: Superior ratings in drum major, percussion, and Jayettes, and an Excellent rating for the overall band performance. Their achievements at the LMEA festival underscore the dedication and talent of the ensemble. These performances reflect Jesuit’s dedication to integrating fine and performing arts into its classically grounded educational program.
