Jesuit Community Celebrates Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Clad in blazers and ties rather than in their signature khaki uniforms, Blue Jays dressed with distinction to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Originally called the College of the Immaculate Conception after its founding in 1847, the school has faithfully honored this sacred December 8th tradition since Pope Pius IX issued the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus in 1854 to formally define this dogma for the Universal Church.
This day offered students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to gather in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs to reflect on Mary’s unique role in salvation history and to seek her intercession. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Stephen Kramer, S.J., who was joined on the alter by Fr. John Brown, S.J., Fr. Roy Joseph, S.J., and Fr. Kevin Dyer, S.J. As part of the liturgy, music was led by choir director Angelo Lupinetti.
The Significance of the Immaculate Conception
Last year, Elizabeth Rizzo, who works aside Fr. Brown in the president’s office, offered a moving reflection on the significance of this special feast day. Be sure to watch her three-minute exposition below.
