Shaking off the debacle experienced against Brother Martin three days ago, the Blue Jays rebooted and rebounded against Archbishop Rummel on Saturday, April 19, shutting out the Raiders, 6-0, at John Ryan Stadium.

Brandon Sequeira’s pitching was so right on target that the senior could have beaned a mosquito clinging to the backstop. Sequeira (7-1) allowed only three hits and one walk. More importantly, he established a new career high in strikeouts, fanning 11 Raiders, including the three lead-off batters in the top of the first inning.

While Jesuit had only five hits, the bats of two Blue Jays were particularly hot. Blake Baker (2B) smashed two triples and had two RBIs. Alex Galy (SS) hit two singles and also had a couple of RBIs. The team’s fifth hit, a single, came courtesy of Nick Ray (CF). Two of Jesuit’s runs literally walked across home plate when the bases were loaded. The Raiders’ pitcher encountered some trouble and a pair of Jays were walked.

Jesuit (24-5 overall; 6-2 in district) has two district games remaining on the 2014 regular season schedule, both at John Ryan Stadium. The Blue Jays welcome St. Augustine to the Ryan on Monday, April 21. First pitch is 4 p.m.

The final district game will bring Archbishop Shaw to this side of the river on Wednesday, April 23. The Jays will be trying to even the score against the Eagles, who recently dealt Jesuit its first district drubbing. First pitch is 7 p.m.
