Pitchmen Logan Hornung and Brandon Briuglio combined on a one-hit shut out as Jesuit-based Retif Oil  trounced De La Salle-based Ray Brandt Automotive, 10-0, on Wednesday, June 11. The District-1 American Legion game was played at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Hornung, who gave up just a single hit, threw the first three innings. Briuglio was perfect in his two frames of work — six up, six down. The game ended after five innings due to the league’s ten-run rule.

Scott Crabtree and the aforementioned Briuglio each had two hits and a pair of RBIs.  Dan Edmund recorded the game’s only triple. The late afternoon contest ended on a walk-off double by Ben Hess, who made a triumphant return from injury.

On Monday, June 9, Retif blasted Brother Martin-based Peake BMW, 15-7. The game scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, against Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s was rained out.

Retif’s record stands at 7-1.

Retif Oil players, coaches, and chaperones leave on Friday, June 13, for San Jose, CA to play in a weekend tournament hosted by (Jesuit) Bellarmine High School.
