ShareJays Dominate St. Paul’s, 49-22, Bringing Home Their First Win of the Young Season

Jesuit stunned St. Paul’s – and maybe the rest of prep football – by routing the Wolves, 49-22, in a non-district game Friday evening before a raucous crowd in Covington.
The Jays were unstoppable on offense and scored seven touchdowns while unleashing a tenacious defense that stuffed the Wolves on nearly every possession.
“This is the Jesuit team I was waiting to see,” said Coach Mark Songy. “You guys were outstanding and absolutely awesome. Our defense was unbelievable and they gave our offense momentum. I am very proud of you and very happy. St. Paul’s is a quality team and we got after them from the opening kickoff to the finish.”
Here’s how the Jays racked up 49 points:
Senior tight end Foster Moreau made a leaping catch of a 12-yard pass from senior quarterback Trey LaForge in the end zone. Moreau hit the turf hard but held on to the ball.
Senior running back Charles Jackson dodged defenders and ran 26 yards for a TD.
Junior defensive back and return specialist Jakirai Wiley electrified the Jesuit crowd when he returned a 63-yard punt return, breaking tackles and reversing field all the way to the end zone.
Junior Kalija Lipscomb caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Trey LaForge right before halftime which gave the Jays a 28-3 lead.
Senior defensive lineman Hunter Robert scored from two yards out early in the 3rd quarter.
LaForge hit Lipscomb with a 35-yard pass for the sixth touchdown.
Senior running back Chris Mills scampered 25 yards for the Jays’ final score.
Junior kicker Crew Jacobs converted all seven point-afters.
The Blue Jays play their first home game next Friday, September 19 when they host Central High of Baton Rouge. Kickoff at Tad Gormley Stadium is 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $6 at the Jesuit switchboard on Banks Street up until 3:30 p.m. on the day of the game. Tickets at the gate are $8.

Two minutes into the game, senior tight end Foster Moreau leaps high and comes down in the end zone with a 12-yard pass from Trey LaForge to score Jesuit's first touchdown. Junior kicker Crew Jacobs added the PAT and the Jays are out front, 7-0. -
After Jesuit jumps out to a 7-0 lead, the cheerleaders are hoisted on the shoulders of the boys to rally the fans for the ensuing kickoff to St. Paul's. -
Linebacker Robert Lobrano (55) puts a wrap around the Wolves' quarterback, who coughs up the ball. The fumble is recovered by St. Paul's. -
Foster Moreau hauls in a pass and the Wolves find out that the big tight end doesn't go down easy. His second and third efforts result in an additional 10 yards on the play. -
Junior wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb catches a pass and behind the blocking of juniors Austin Reed (72) and John Sewell (60), is able to pick up a nice chunk of real estate. -
The snaps were off-target on two consecutive plays, forcing quarterback Trey LaForge to stretch for the ball. -
LaForge decides to scrap the play and salvage the down by keeping the ball himself. His run was just short of a first down. -
Senior punter Shawn Walsh muffs the snap but picks up the ball and makes a valiant attempt to run for the hills. Unfortunately, two Wolves make sure he goes nowhere. Walsh injured his ankle on this play. -

Middle linebacker Robert Lobrano makes another diving tackle to take down this Wolf. -
The Jesuit fans are wild after the Blue Jay defense sticks it to the Wolves on fourth down and 2 yards to go for a touchdown. -
Senior Hunter Robert comes off the defensive line and takes up the fullback position. After shutting down the Wolves on the 2- yard line, the Jays are deep in their own territory. Robert finds enough daylight to give the offense some breathing room. -
The Wolves were chasing the Blue Jay running backs all night long. Chris Mills picks up 30 yards and eventually scores the Jays' final touchdown, a 25-yard gallop up the middle.. -
Senior running back Charles Jackson (9), accompanied by quarterback Trey LaForge (who was ready to throw a block if needed), scores the Jays' second touchdown with this 26-yard run. -
Members of the Blue Jay Band probably never thought that they'd be playing the "Fight Song" so many times. -
Harrison Daste (39), Mitchell Melito (38) and Dillon Knight team up on this tackle following a kickoff. -
The Jays are out front, 14-3, when St. Paul's has to punt. Jakirai Wiley catches the punt and starts churning those legs, thrilling Jesuit fans (and stunning the Wolves) with a 63-yard touchdown run. Harrison Daste (39) and Jandon Briscoe (3) provide key blocks at the start of Wiley's jaunt. -

After the Jays kickoff, the defense remains stout and the Wolves have to give it right back. Quarterback Trey LaForge goes to work with a pass over the middle. -
With Shawn Walsh sidelined, Crew Jacobs is sent in to handle punts. Jacobs boots this one and the Wolves fumble. The Jays recover and have another opportunity to score before halftime. -
Trey LaForge tries to hit Foster Moreau in the end zone, but a Wolf barely gets a finger on the ball to send it astray and out of the tight end's reach. -
Trey LaForge floats a pass to Kalija Lipscomb (17) deep in the end zone. Lipscomb makes a terrific leaping grab for the touchdown to give the Jays a 28-3 halftime lead. On his way back to the sidelines, Lipscomb is congratulated by teammates LaForge (11), Foster Moreau (82), Michael McMahon (41), and sophomore Corey Dublin (74). -
With Harrison Daste holding and Foster Moreau blocking on one side, Crew Jacobs kicks his fourth PAT. -
Jesuit kicks off to St. Paul's to begin the second half and Jakirai Wiley grabs this Wolf, jarring the ball loose. Senior Will McMahon (5) pounces on the fumble and the Jays have a 1st and 10 on the 15-yard line. -
Running back Chris Mills is picked up, literally, by the St. Paul's defense, much to the amusement of his teammates. -
With the ball on the two-yard line and the Jays about to run out of downs, Hunter Robert takews a handoff from Trey LaForge and prances untouched into the end zone to score Jesuit's fifth touchdown of the game. -
Robert Lobrano gets a hand on this Wolf runner's shoe to trip him up. -
This Wolf receiver makes the catch but pays the price as cornerback Justin Helm (14) slaps a slobberknocker on him in front the St. Paul's sideline. -
Foster Moreau takes in a pass over the middle before a pack of Wolves drags him down. -
Malachi Hull makes a reception and holds on tight as the Wolves try desperately and unsuccessfully to pry the ball loose. -
Trey LaForge takes the snap and lookks downfield, spotting Kalija Lipscomb... -
... Kalija Lipscomb catches the ball on the 35-yard line and his legs, as well as those of Foster Moreau, go to work. Lipscomb refuses to go down and continues to make forward progress, with help from Moreau... -
... Foster Moreau signals touchdown after Kalija Lipscomb is given a final push from senior Alex Rabalais (30) and falls into the end zone. -
Osman Torres was flagged on this play after he hit the St. Paul's quarterback who had just thrown the ball down field. -

With Foster Moreau leading the way, Charles Jackson continues to give the Wolves fits. -
Sophomore running back Kai Rozas saw some playing time near the end of the game. -
Junior quarterback Peter Hontas also got some playing time. -
In addition to performing at halftime with the Blue Jay Marching Band, the Jayettes entertained the crowd from their perches in the stands. -
The Blue Jays sing the Alma Mater before leaving Covington a happy bunch and looking forward to playing Central High of Baton Rouge on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at Tad Gormley Stadium.
