The Blue Jay wrestling team had mixed results at a pair of weekend competitions.

On Friday, Feb. 6, the Blue Jays hosted the Shaw Eagles at their final home dual meet of the season. Despite several pins, the Jays were unable to come away with a win and fell to the Eagles, 36-34.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Blue Jays traveled across the lake to participate in the St. Paul’s Invitational. The Jays returned from the Northshore invitational with third place and a team score of 146.5, falling behind Brother Martin (268) and St. Paul’s (161). Holy Cross (128) and Destrehan (55) rounded out the top five. Standout Blue Jay performances included freshman Adam Larriviere (106) who made it to the finals, but lost to Luke Cotton of Brother Martin in a one-minute sudden victory period. Junior Griffin Mason (145) lost by major decision in the finals to Brother Martin’s Mason Williams. Junior Guy Patron (195) won by forfeit over Brother Martin’s Travis Viener to capture his weight class title.

This weekend marked the last competition of the regular season before the state tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. With several wrestlers in contention for top seeds at the state tournament, the third-ranked Blue Jays aim to improve upon their impressive 2014 runner-up finish.
